8/15/09 - After 40+ strips over several comics, the Blue Lotus storyline has now concluded. Here is a link ti the master Blue Lotus index where you can view the ending, as well as all the other comics in the series.

Wow. This was up later than I planned, but thankfully up on the day promised. Tess spent the better part of the day at the hospital getting tests for the pneumonia. Thank goodness the round of antibiotics she took over the weekend helped enough that she was not admitted. Instead she got a round of inhaled antibiotics and was prescribed a heavier drug to kick the bug. Anyhow, between that, and my own illness, I am still proud I managed to get the comic done.

We now pass off the story to The Apple of Discord, who (I believe) will be posting the first installment on Wednesday. Though apparently there has been lead-up before then, so check it out. As for Bitmap World, you can see that a few of the “identity thieves” have wandered off. You never know where they’ll end up, or who they’ll meet.

On a professional note, I am a bit disappointed that I ended up so sick through this run. I really enjoyed doing the art on this cross-over. Granted, it shows how rusty I am, considering each strip took between 6-8 hours to do. Still, I always enjoy doing something different. Pixel art–and particularly “smiley art” is my true love. Whenever I do a guest strip that is decidely different, I am reminded how much I love smiley art, and how much better I am at it! Though, doing something different is great creatively. It lets me stretch and I find it relaxing. I did have a blast doing this, I just wish I had felt better to really get the most out of it.

4/20/09 Quick note/update –I hope to have the new strip up in the next couple of hours. My daughter’s pneumonia is not getting better so it may require a hospital stay. When it rains, it pours, right? Either way, I just need to do some touch-up, but as you can imagine other things have been pressing. We *will* have the strip up today…this afternoon sometime.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had hoped to have this strip up this morning–like around 10. Here it is 4:00 CST and it’s justl going up. If you read the main strip, you’ll know that I was diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday. Just a warning to all of you who have a nagging “chest cold” that lasts more than a week–it might be something else. Anyhow, I’m moving very slowly, but still okay. I’m happy with the way this strip turned out. Again, I hand-drew most of it and then pixelated. Took forever, but was worth it.
Last installment of the strip will be up this coming Monday. Then we hand the baton off to The Apple of Discord. ~Mirz
Second installment. The real feat of getting this one done was that I have been sick as a dog and so has the whole family. Bad, bad stomach flu on top of another coughing/runny-nose/flu-like bug. It really sucks staying up half the night with sick kids and then having to drag your butt to work and put in an 8+ hour day feeling like death warmed over. Ugh. Not to mention squeezing comic-making in there somewhere.
Either way, third installment will be due on Saturday, and we’ll wrap up our part of the storyline on Monday, passing it off to The Apple of Discord. However, the story won’t end there, as certain tentacles will creep over into the main BMW storyline.
We are happy to announce we are a part of a neat cross-over with several other webcomics. The “Blue Lotus” storyline started in Tubularman, followed through to Failed Objective, is now in our hands, will then be handed off to the Apple of Discord, then to Maskerman, and back to Tubularman for the finale. Whew!!
I do want to warn that some of these comics are NOT all-ages. Some contain profanity and subject matters not quite appropriate for children. Nothing to make your hair gray, but I do want to caution parents to check out the sites before letting younger kids read them. That said, I encourage teens and adults to go read the strips in the cross-over, since there’s some great stuff there! For families and our younger viewers, we are making this storyline self-contained enough that your children can read the Bitmap World portion and still be able to follow things.
Believe it or not, this comic was hand-drawn on paper. Honestly. See… So, why did I go and make it look like an MS Paint comic? (Though admittedly there are a few effects in this strip you couldn’t do in Paint.) Well, pixelating has kinda become my signature. I *can* draw. Just One More was an example of my earlier work. This guest comic I did shows more recent efforts. Still, people recognize us for our pixels, so I have been trying to stay true to those roots, such as this recent guest strip. That, plus the fact this storylinec will eventually tenacle into the Pixel’s Bitmap World continuity. So, to keep readers from being confused by an art switch, I chose to go the pixel route. All of that said, I had a lot of fun with this. It was a TON of work. Probably 8 hours all-together. Part of that was me being rust working with drawn images, scanning, inking, clean-up, layout, and more. Still, I love how it turned out, and we’re looking forward to doing more on this storyline!
As an aside, here’s a helpful site you may want to check out: NickCiske.com
