324 - Get ‘Em Boys
September 26, 2009

THis was a first, using non-formed thoughts. In the past when someone was obviously thinking, but we had a set where we didn’t need word balloons, we simply made it that the person was talking out-loud. I think that worked for the scene where Blip was talking through things in his cardboard-box hideout. However, I really thought he would be thinking as he was flying to save the mayor. I wondered if it would work if we had floating words but just leader bubbles up. TO my delight, it did.
I wanted to do this one just to show Blip a little more. Even though we follow him prominently through the strip, he is rather still a mystery. In superhero comics and movies, I have always enjoyed the stories that dealt with the humanistic side of the character. Namely having to deal with their limitations and shortcomings. Sure, Batman can wallop the bad guys, but what about the times he is a few minutes behind. Does he stress he’s not gonna make it there in time, or is he just so arrogant to think somehow he can bend time and just make it. Probably a little bit of both, I would imagine.
Even though I said I wouldn’t, I will apologize for getting this up a few hours late. I ended up with a sore throat and just couldn’t finish up the lettering last night. Flu season is upon us and I’m not looking forward to it.
Quick note: I went back and added a few comments to issues 321 and 322, if you’re interested.
