302 - The Tell-Tale Doll

July 25, 2009

I know it’s not fun if you need to explain the joke, but since it’s not really a joke, but an overall element of the strip…the reason that Ada’s words are so small is that her talking is in the background. It’s being drowned out by Mr. Smiley’s thoughts. I wanted to convey that without it appearing she was whispering, which she is not. Oddly enough, the font we use is the same as for the larger letters–the Bitmap World font. In fact, the smaller lettering is how the font is supposed to look. It’s a pixel font that is best at 7pts. We up it for the strip and in the process have to manually kern certain letters to get it to look just right.
